Our goal was to build a school bus that would not only provide the utmost protection for students, but get high marks from the people who buy, use and maintain it. So we started with an IC Bus™ integrated chassis and built an all-steel cage body onto it. We added 16-gauge steel side sheets and 18,500-lb. rear steel-spring suspension.
A school bus’s primary goal is safeguarding children at every stop. So we placed lighted controls for the entrance door, warning lights and other high-use items on the steering wheel.
We increased the height and width of the entrance door to keep students more visible. And to make sure the bus is completely empty at the end of the day, we made our Leave No Student Behind® safety system standard equipment. It’s a combination of safety features the competition simply can’t match. For mechanics, we made maintenance easy with a lightweight, Easy Tilt hood, coordinated service intervals, and a self-diagnosing Diamond Logic electrical system. The CE series PSI offers an easy to use and inexpensive alternative to diesel. Each school bus uses a PSI 8.8 liter heavy-duty propane engine, a cleaner option that doesn't sacrifice power, torque or durability. Combined with our standard Allison transmission, our CE Series propane-powered school buses are built to not only meet our high standards, but to exceed yours.
What'sUnder the Hood
Higher Torque & Lower RPM
The crankshaft is built of induction-hardned steel that creates a durable block capable of 1,000 lb-ft torque at a lower RPM, so performance is similiar to a diesel engine.
Camshafts are optimized for both low-speed and high-speed operations, reducing engine wear, heat, and vibration.
Key components have been specifically engineered for the bus application, making 8.8L the most powerful medium-duty alternative fuel engine on the market.
The 8.8L is compatible with the commercial-grade Allison 1000, 2000 and 3000 powertrains, and uses the same diagnostic system regardless of fuel or power needs.
Cylinder heads are modernized with heavy-duty, high-flow heads that create a fast burn, improving efficiency and further reducing emissions.
