Setting Every Driver Up for Success
Behind every IC Bus CE Series is a group of people who take their responsibility personally. The engineers, welders, technicians, and inspectors who build each bus all play a role in creating a vehicle designed to safely serve students and their communities.
Each CE Series school bus begins its journey at the Tulsa, Oklahoma, facility, where the entire manufacturing process happens under one roof. This integrated approach allows teams to work closely together, supporting consistent quality and efficient production. Durable materials like 16-gauge steel, threaded roof bows, and precisely aligned frames create strength and stability that passengers may never see but rely on every day.
There is, however, a group that gets special consideration: drivers. Everyone knows driving a school bus is no easy task. Noise, rowdy passengers, heavy traffic, and unpredictable weather can make an adventure out of any trip. Because of these challenges, it's important to keep the driver as comfortable and informed as possible.
The following IC Bus CE Series features are designed to help drivers:
5" Digital Color Display - The intuitive display makes it easy to monitor the vehicle's health at a glance with real-time visual and audible alerts, fault codes, and digital gauge readings. It's fully integrated with Intellipark®, collision avoidance systems, and optional tire pressure monitoring.
Wing Instrument Panel - Angled toward the driver for maximum comfort, switches are positioned for easy reading and reaching. Many feature an "on" light that reminds the driver when a component is actively in use.
Integrated Driver HVAC System - Multiple intuitive controls within arm's reach include recirculation, blower speed, A/C and heat control, mode control, and max defrost. This creates a more comfortable environment while ensuring faster, more complete defrosting over a larger area for enhanced visibility and safety.
Stalk Shifter - Transmission control mounted on the steering column allows the driver to easily operate shifting and engine braking while keeping their eyes on the road.
Storage Bin with Standard USB A and C Ports - More usable space designed to easily house a three-inch storage binder, purse, and other essentials. Standard USB A and C ports optimize convenience and accessibility to personal items, safety equipment, and device charging.
Full Range of Driver Seat Options - Available seats feature more adjustment options, enhanced air suspension or hydraulics, heat, optional armrests, and an isolator for additional fore/aft movement. High-end air suspension continuously senses inputs and adjusts the spring rate to dampen road bumps and vibrations, improving comfort while reducing fatigue.
Bendix® Intellipark® Electronic Parking Brake (Air Brake Only) - An ergonomic electronic switch replaces the traditional pneumatic push/pull knob. The system electronically engages the parking brake when critical interlocks are met, reinforcing proper parking practices and mitigating rollaway and runaway accidents for peace of mind.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (Optional) - Reports real-time information through displays and alerts on the dash cluster, including low pressure, extreme low pressure, high pressure, high temperature, system faults, and tire deviation. This improves safety and handling while mitigating flats and blow-outs, and saves diagnostic time with displays organized by axle and tire position.
Sloped Hood Design - Improves forward visibility by lowering the front profile, making it easier to see the road directly ahead and monitor students and pedestrians. This reduces blind spots in the critical forward "danger zone" for safer maneuvering in school zones and tight spaces.
First Light Illuminated School Bus Signs (ISBS) and Fully Illuminated Stop Arms (FISA) - IC Bus features illuminated safety features to help make buses stand out in fog, rain, or darkness. ISBS and FISA are now standard on IC Bus™ Electric CE Series and CE Series School Buses. These important features can help ease the mind of the driver, especially in stressful, low-light environments.
Back-Lit, Color-Coded Steering Wheel Switches/Controls - Allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road—and on the children at the bus stop. Diamond Logic programming increases efficiency and safety with intuitive controls right at the driver's fingertips, including common interlocks like bus door open and close.
A Better Experience Behind the Wheel
Every feature in the IC Bus CE Series reflects a commitment to supporting drivers who face challenges on every route. From ergonomic controls and enhanced visibility to advanced safety systems and comfort-focused design, these innovations work together to reduce fatigue, increase confidence, and allow drivers to focus on what matters most: safely transporting students. When drivers feel supported and equipped with the right tools, everyone benefits—the students, the families who trust them, and the communities they serve. At IC Bus, building a better bus for the driver means building a safer journey for all.
