I spent 20 years as a diesel technician for multiple OEMs and Dealer Groups and another 8 years in Service Management before taking a position with Navistar. In all that time, I always felt we did not provide enough recognition to technicians. Their mission every day is to create solutions for our customers; it doesn’t matter what the weather conditions are, they are fixing trucks. They interact with the OEMs providing critical feedback about issues or problems on units in service and even catch issues prior to a new truck being delivered. They truly represent both the dealer and the manufacturer. As an industry we have struggled to effectively show our appreciation. Since joining Navistar I have had the pleasure of meeting so many new techs and have had the honor of presenting the Technician of Influence Awards 3 times. I hope I get to present many more.
